Feedback to Seminar-Training 1 A two-day training on December 13-14, 2024, was organized by the Mathematics Department Extension Committee in response to the demand of the participants of the September 2024 REEL (Researchers and Educators' Enhancement and Literacy) Seminar-Training . The four topics introduced last September 20-21 were the overview and basics of the LaTeX document preparation system, Python Programming, open-source Statistical software, and Research and Statistics. The discussion was more of appreciation of the topic by the participants of the partner institution, MIT, Inc. - Marawi . The feedback and evaluation made by the participants of the seminar-training resulted to the planning of the hands-on training as the community demanded it thus the second seminar-training for the REEL Extension Project came about. MDEC Meeting (November 2024)

After the meeting with the partner institution on November 17, 2024, which resulted in planning the REEL hands-on training, the Mathematics Department Extension Committee (MDEC) convened to schedule the second seminar-training.  The meeting of the MDEC included the stakeholders, who are the faculty and students of the Mathematics Department. On November 29, 2024, among those present in the meeting held in Room 213 of Math Building are: (1) Prof. Japar, the project leader of the REEL Extension Project and the head of the MDEC; (2) Prof. Abdulcarim, member of the MDEC; (3) Prof. Ballenas and Prof. Dibagulun, representing the faculty of the Mathematics Department, and (4) Miss Bago, a graduate student of the Mathematics Department. Including the stakeholders in the planning of the extension projects of the Mathematics Department is among the recommendations by the AACCUP Level I Accreditation Team. REEL September 2024 Activity Evaluation

Evaluation of activities in implementing a project is essential for gauging the goals attained. Feedback from the community can be the basis for change to improve planned activities in the community. Evaluation strengthens the partnership between two organizations aiming for a common goal. The college secretary of the partner community, MIT Inc. - Marawi, has given a copy of the result of the evaluation of the September 2024 first seminar-training conducted by the Mathematics Department of CNSM, MSU. Achieving quality education was found to have slow progress globally. Prioritizing this goal in research and extension endeavors will have a great impact on achieving the overall 2030 Agenda . Enhancement and literacy extension projects that capacitate educators will have a tremendous effect on the economic growth of the nation. Schools whose educators have adequate knowledge and skills will produce graduates who are capable of accelerating progress and development in their workplaces.  The Researchers and Educators' Enhancement and Literacy (REEL) Extension Project of the  Mathematics Department    of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has the objective of addressing quality education and decent work and economic growth developmental goals. Preparation for Project Implementation

After several visits to the extension partner schools, a memorandum of agreement was drafted to finalize each party’s roles and responsibilities in the implementation of the REEL extension project . The Mathematics Department Extension (MDE) Committee led the planning for the implementation on September 20-21, 2024, beginning with an MDEC meeting on September 11 . Training kits were prepared, including handouts from the four speakers on online and free software useful for research and academic work. Led by the MDEC, the working committee consists of Prof. Dibagulun, Prof. Mastura, and Prof. Kabirun. They organized the seminar and prepared the training kits for the participants. Fostering connection and partnership through extension projects

Fostering connection and partnership through extension projects is vital for mutual growth. These initiatives bridge gaps between organizations or communities, creating a collaborative environment where resources and knowledge are shared.  In September 2024, the REEL extension project will be implemented. Visits to partner schools, MIT and JPI, are conducted to review documents and include provisions that are mutually agreed upon, clearly defining each party’s responsibilities. Extension projects cultivate a sense of community and shared purpose. They empower both parties, fostering a culture of cooperation and continuous improvement.

Program: Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Strength of the extension and community involvement: The program under survey has a very strong pool of experts to deliver relevant extension services. Funds for the conduct of extension projects and activities are adequate. Extension projects conducted by the program are based on the result of the benchmark survey. Program:  Bachelor of Science in Statistics Strength of the extension and community involvement: The College has a Research and Extension Office equipped with facilities and managed by qualified and competent faculty members/personnel that oversees the processes involving extension projects. The REEL Extension Project of the Mathematics was approved with Special Order No. 708 Series of 2024 on May 21, 2024. 2. The timeline of the implementation of the project shall be requested to be moved to either during the summer period or the first semester SY 2024-2025 as the approval was late for the second semester SY 2023-2024.  3. The extension load granted for the Mathematics Department Extension Committee (MDEC) as indicated in the REEL Extension Project shall be decided yet as it was not consumed during the second semester SY 2023-2024. A letter to the Dean of CNSM shall be attached to the Special Order No. 708 for the MDEC to be granted the deloading for the next term. 4. A memorandum of agreement between MSU and the partner school shall be drafted. 5. Planning for the REEL Extension Project has started with the partner school.

May 2024 Approval of REEL Extension Project

In August 2023 a writing workshop was initiated by the OVCRED for the research and extension coordinators of the University leading to the creation of the Mathematics Department Extension Committee (MDEC). After proposing two extension projects, finally one was approved by the administration for implementation. The REEL (Researchers and Educators Enhancement and Literacy) Extension Project was approved in May 2024. The image below is a portion of the released Special Order. The REEL extension project of the Mathematics Department was approved by the UESC and Form 02 shall be utilized for it to be endorsed to the administration.  2. The specific part of Form 02 was assigned to the committee members to ensure fast submission to UESC to get the special order within the proposed period of implementing the extension project. 3. The main thing to be added to the approved proposal is the Project Implementation Plan for every specific objective of the extension project. Matters discussed: 1. A letter of specificity shall be prepared as an attached document to the extension project proposal and shall be endorsed by the office of the dean to the UESC.  2. Plans regarding one of the Mathematics Department's activities in the coming Science Week in March 2024, which is the Free Statistical Consultation, was presented. Matters covered in the discussion: 1. Two extension activities are proposed for the Math Department: STAR for the BS Statistics program and REEL for the BS Mathematics and MS Mathematics programs. 2. The STAR extension program has just undergone the needs assessment stage and is about to propose the guidelines for the Memorandum of Understanding for partner private HEIs. 3. The first MDEC (Mathematics Department Extension Committee) meeting was held in September 2023 at The Dining Room, Commercial Center, MSU, Marawi City. The meeting flow is as follows: 1. Distribution of MDEC notepads to the members of the committee. 2. The Committee Chairperson provided copies of the STAR Extension Program Proposal and the Needs Assessment Survey Questionnaire given to the intended recipients of the program who are private higher education institution (HEI) academicians and researchers. 3. Needs Assessment Survey of Private HEI of Marawi City

In May 2023, the Mathematics Department STAR Extension Program proposal was sent to selected private higher education institutions of Marawi City. Copies of the needs assessment survey questionnaires (NASQ) are attached to the proposal. Needs Assessment Survey Questionnaire (NASQ) The response rate obtained in the survey are: JMM (4); JPI (5), PMTC (15), LIPCF (14), LCCI (3), and MIT (14). There are a total of 59 answered NASQs that are returned. The results of the needs assessment survey are the following: The top perceived important areas in doing research are the method of data collection, research design, and sampling design. The top commonly used in research studies according to the respondents are percentage measure, mean/median/mode, and frequency or counts.
